Acupuncture

Acupuncture is an ancient therapeutic technique aimed at opening up a patient’s energy flow. During acupuncture, long, thin needles are inserted in various parts of the body to stimulate nerves in the muscles and beneath the skin. Acupuncture has been proven to help with aches and pains in muscles, migraines, nausea, knee pain, and other injuries. Unlike dry needling, someone performing acupuncture must be licensed and undergo training. These professionals learn about the areas of the body and nerves. After a thorough medical history, they will be able to decide where needles would benefit a patient the most.

Dry Needling

With dry needling, the goal is to relieve muscle cramps or pain. Our chiropractors can insert short, thin filiform needles into pressure points, also known as trigger points. The needle is typically left in the muscle for 10 to 30 minutes. There are two types of the technique: in and out and non-trigger point technique. In and out means it is inserted and removed quickly. This technique seems to work best for tightness or stiffness in muscles.

Cupping

Cupping is used on tight spots such as the upper and lower back or shoulders. A pump is used to create a vacuum which will pull the tight muscle into the cup and stretch it. This helps to release any tight muscles and increase circulation. Cups are generally left on the body for about five minutes. This chiropractic service can be used for a variety of reasons and many athletes with sports injuries have seen positive results with it. Combined with massage therapy, it helps treat sore muscles overall.
